Film marketing and merchandising

Film marketing is used to promote the film and make people more aware of it and gain interest. It is an important part of the production process because it can help maximize the success of the film.
imgres.jpgFilms can be marketed in many ways like posters. Posters will usually the genre of the film and be tailored to attract attention from the target audience. Posters are a good way to market films as they can be placed any wear and are cheap.

Trailers are also shown in cinemas, they show the story, genre and main points of the film. Trailers are a good way to gain interest for a film as, at cinemas, they are shown directly to movie-goers who are most likely to go and see the film. also it can be shown before a film of the same genre so fans of the genre will see it.

With the internet being incredibly popular movies are now being advertised with websites.
pop ups are also used to gain interest. I think a problem with the website is that people would have to go to it.

Merchandise are film related products which are sold to for their own profit and promoting the film.
Products can be sold maximizing on the success and popularity of the film.

The most common type of tie-in merchandise for children's films are fast food toys. These are cheap and because they are aimed at children they are more impressionable so they would ant to see the film.

With the increasing popularity of video games, film licensed games are being developed. They are usually developed for children's films as they are most likely to play games but some adult films are made into games.
I think making licensed video games is risky because if a poor game is developed it could reflect badly on the film.
